Conservatory Roof Options
Improving your homes since 2001…
Conservatory roof options from St Edmunds Windows & Doors vary from the original polycarbonate to glass and the new solid roof options.
If you have an existing conservatory which is too hot in the summer or too cold in the winter, you can replace just the roof to give you a room to use all year round.
High Specification Polycarbonate Roof
Polycarbonate is one of the most cost-effective of the conservatory roof options, Polycarbonate is made up from thin sheets of plastic, laid on top of one another, with bridging air sections to reinforce and insulate. Polycarbonate sheets are strong, durable and come in a variety of colours which reflect heat and provide added shade in your new room.
Some companies are offering to plaster the inside of existing polycarbonate roofs, something we would definitely discourage as the strength required in the roof construction and the supporting window frames/doors will not have been designed to take the extra weight loading of a thermally insulated, plastered roof. The best option by far is to look at one of our purpose-designed solid roof options.
St Edmunds Windows & Doors Glass Roof
A glass roof is now the most popular choice of roof material as it solves that age-old problem of your conservatory being too hot in the summer and too cold in the winter. A glass roof provides thermal insulation as well as being solar reflective so delivers a comfortable year-round temperature as well as reducing fading to soft furnishings. It also has the added benefit of being self-cleaning.
Having a glass roof means that you can see the sky during the day, and the stars at night. You get a better quality of light, and you will find that the roof transmits more natural light into the adjoining internal room. The conservatory will be warmer, which means you will need less extra heat.
St Edmunds Windows & Doors Warm Roof
The St Edmunds Windows & Doors Warm Roof is the first roofing system designed to give you the flexibility to combine solid and glazed roofing seamlessly. A warm roof enhances the thermal performance of your conservatory to give you a room that you can use all year round.
Installed on a new conservatory or to replace the roof of an existing conservatory, the St Edmunds Windows & Doors Warm Roof allows you to incorporate one, or more, glazed panels that allow daylight to penetrate deep into your room, making the space instantly brighter.
The glass panels can be inserted to replace any of the roofing panels, in any shape, enabling you to maximise the light in your room to produce a very contemporary design not easily achievable with other types of roofing system. The new warm roof system is one of the most innovative conservatory roof options available.
Internally the St Edmunds Windows & Doors Warm Roof is stunning. It can deliver a magnificent vaulted ceiling and incorporates an internal pelmet around the perimeter, where lights can be installed. At the ridge at the top of the roof you can insert or hang lights in a place where you otherwise wouldn’t be able to on a vaulted ceiling.
If a vaulted ceiling isn’t for you then there is an option of a suspended ceiling, allowing you to continue the ceiling height from an adjoining room or to give your room a more ‘cosy’ feel.
The St Edmunds Windows & Doors Warm Roof can be formed into any shape or roof style. The roof can incorporate the Classic Cornice – hiding the guttering and giving your conservatory a modern, aesthetically pleasing feature.
Externally the roof is finished in urban grey to compliment any housing style and give a contemporary look. The roof is quick to install compared to other solid roofs on the market and because of its prefabricated design, doesn’t require any onsite cutting, reducing waste and disruption.
St Edmunds Windows & Doors Tiled Roofs
Lightweight Tiled Roof
The St Edmunds Windows & Doors Lightweight Tiled Roof has all the great features of the Warm Roof but with the added benefit of the external appearance of a tiled roof. This system truly makes your new space feel like an extension of your home. Fully insulated with sound-absorbing qualities the St Edmunds Windows & Doors Lightweight Tiled Roof consists of lightweight recycled UPVc tiles available in a variety of colours or colour-matched to the existing house roof if desired.
A conservatory with a St Edmunds Windows & Doors Lightweight Tiled Roof really provides the WOW factor. Because the roof is so light, it doesn’t require additional structural elements such as columns or piers. You can even add roof windows or Velux windows to allow extra light to flood in exactly where you want it.
Our tiled roofs are manufactured to the highest quality. Once constructed, they won’t rot, rust, peel or flake, so they need very little care.
Heavyweight Tiled Roof
For a truly authentic roof, you may like to consider the St Edmunds Windows & Doors Heavyweight Tiled Roof. It has all the benefits of the lightweight roof but can use the same roof tiles or slates as the main house. The heavyweight tiled roof is a modern equivalent of a standard extension roof.
You can choose from UPVC, Aluminium or timber conservatory and the choice will be determined by personal preference. This is something you can discuss with our Design Consultants during your visit.
